Religiosity and spirituality have a significant influence on the treatment of chronic diseases. In the quest for the health teams to play a leading role on the subject, an integrative review was carried out, aiming to characterize the professionals' perspective on religiosity and spirituality in the processes of treating chronic diseases in the tertiary context. Four databases were searched and, after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, thirteen articles were selected. Atlas ti software 22.0.1. was used for the organization and content analysis of the collected data. Three main categories of analysis were configured: 1) Training, Professional Approach and Experience, 2) R/S and Existential Needs, and 3) Chronic Illness and Death in the hospital context. There was recognition of the importance of religiosity/spirituality (R/S) in the professionals' practice and in their personal lives, as they felt more prepared to deal with death than with spiritual care. It was also observed the marginalization of spiritual needs in comprehensive patient care and inadequate or non-existent professional training, which make it difficult to implement actions related to the spiritual care of patients and families. Thus, greater integration of the spiritual dimension in the context of health actions is advocated.
