Abstract

Abstract

Despite water being an essential resource for human beings, there are still low-income communities without access to treated water supply and, therefore, this public tends to seek new water sources that can meet their needs. Thus, this article sought to evaluate the perception of users regarding the quality of water consumed in residential buildings in the Vila dos Frades neighborhood. Refers to an analytical cross-sectional study. Socioeconomic

aspects, supply, and water installations of residents were researched through the application of questionnaires. Most of the local water supply is done through individual and collective artesian wells. Based on data analysis, it was found that 67.6% of respondents do not carry out maintenance on their reservoirs, except when necessary; 89.2% do not disinfect the reservoir and pipe during the cleaning process; 62.77% of respondents say that their reservoir is in a place of difficult access; 23.4% do not use mineral water to drink; 28.99% of respondents said they felt bad after drinking water from their reservoirs. It is inferred, therefore, that further studies are needed on basic sanitation to contribute to the search for a better quality of life for citizens. In addition, it is evident the importance of the correct treatment of the water, the periodic and correct maintenance of its reservoirs, and the performance of water quality analysis so that the community of the study area can guarantee the potability of the water consumed.
