The leading cause of death in adults is cardiovascular disease. Among the main ones, cerebrovascular accident (CVA) and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) stand out. Most AMIs progress to sudden death, namely cardiorespiratory arrest (CRA). In these cases, patients lose a 10% chance of survival and each minute of delay in starting cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers. In addition, the cells of noble organs, such as the heart, lungs and brain, begin to die after 4 minutes of ischemia. Therefore, the time between CPR, basic life support (BLS) and advanced life support (ALS) should be as short as possible. This work aimed to investigate the importance of compressions and it is concluded from the literature and researched guidelines that compressions performed correctly are essential for a CRA victim.
