AVALIAÇÃO ANTIBACTERIANA E PERFIL QUÍMICO DAS FOLHAS DA Artemisia annua L.

Abstract

In folk medicine, it is common to use medicinal plants to treat illnesses. The species Artemisia annua L. has been used because it has action against protozoa, but it also has activity against other microorganisms. The present work aims to evaluate the antibacterial activity through the ethanolic extract of the leaves of the species Artemisia annua L.. The study was carried out by obtaining the plant extract that was analyzed by photochemical prospecting. The antibacterial activity was evaluated by the microdilution method using the following bacterial species: Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans, Bacillus cereus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoneae. The modulating activity was determined against the antibiotics gentamicin, amikacin, candamycin and beta-lactams. The results for microbial activity were considered satisfactory, with greater action of the plant extract prevailing against Gram positive strains, especially S.aureus, while Gram negative strains obtained results <1024 ug/ml. In terms of modulating activity, it was observed that the plant extract from the leaves of Artemisia Annua L. acts better in synergism with antibiotics, especially if they are used against Gram positive species. Given the results obtained, it was observed that the leaves of Artemisia annua L. have antimicrobial activity, and the plant extract acts synergistically with antibiotics, increasing their inhibitory activity.
