Abstract

The soil we usually see is a combination of liquid, solid and gaseous parts, with dynamic behavior and three-dimensional shapes. Formed by organic matter, such as plant and animal remains, together with minerals. This article intends to show if the soil of the land located on Rua A, Jardim Renscença neighborhood in the city of São Luís/MA meets conditions for the construction of a masonry house. Therefore, the objective is to research in the laboratory of the CEUMA University if the type of this soil is suitable for the mentioned construction. For this, three fundamental steps were followed: the configuration of the sampling in the field, the determination of the tests in the laboratory and the selection of the appropriate method to predict values in places not measured, where the small parcels of collected soil configure as an absolute value. for the studied environment. Compaction and moisture content tests were also carried out, as it directly influences the behavior of the sample. The research revealed that the studied soil is of the sandy type and the humidity level was approximately 8.17% considered excellent for the mentioned construction, according to the Manual of Paving Techniques. However, this type of research is necessary to identify the soil characteristics, given that the subgrade structure may not perform its function established in the project, resulting in additional maintenance costs.
