The doula appears as another subject in the care of women during pregnancy and childbirth, so it is necessary to explore the perceptions of the women who were assisted / attended. It is a study with a qualitative approach, carried out in the city of Fortaleza, Ceará, with the participation of seven puerperal women attended by doulas in the period from May to July 2019. It used Discourse Analysis (AD) for its organization of the results and discourse axes were: choice of doula; need and search for information; when to hire a doula; obstetric violence; work techniques used; doula support. For these women, the doula assumes the role of encouraging childbirth again.
