The Singular Therapeutic Project (STP) constitutes an important assistance, management and training strategy for the equipment of the Psychosocial Care Network (PCN) in the Unified Health System (UHS). It has been incorporated in different ways, but with weaknesses both in the way of understanding and operating this resource. This qualitative-interpretative study aimed to investigate the conceptions and experiences of the construction of the STP in the PCN of a small municipality in the interior of São Paulo. Nineteem PCN workers and managers participated, through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, analyzed from the perspective of thematic content analysis technique. As a result, in this article we will address “the PTS itself”, showing that understandings of the STP tend to simplify its dimensions, suppressing its formative and reflective character, as well as mischaracterizing the procedural and participatory dimension of its construction. In this sense, we strongly recommend training investment in STP as a strategy for comprehensive care and more effective management in mental health. We also recognize the STP as an inductive means for strengthening the municipal mental health policy linked to Permanent Health Education. This research is born from the researcher's involvement and reflections as a UHS worker and ends with concrete perspectives of products aimed directly at workers and local managers (training workshops), and indirectly to PCN users, based on the potential for transforming care practices.
