The school is configured as a privileged space for actions related to education and health promotion, and the role of school managers is recognized as important for such actions to be applied in daily school life. In this direction, the management team should perceive itself as capable of doing so, despite the challenges to be faced. The objective of this study is to measure the self-efficacy of school managers for promoting a healthy school and correlate it with contextual variables for promoting a healthy school. 104 school managers who work in early childhood education and the initial years of elementary education in a municipal public network in São Paulo participated in the study. Two instruments were used for data collection: Participant Characterization Questionnaire and the Self-efficacy Scale for promoting a healthy school. It was found that school managers showed moderate self-efficacy for promoting a healthy school, and this belief was positively associated with the school context. It is concluded that it is necessary to promote the self-efficacy of school managers to feel capable of creating an environment conducive to health promotion in school.
