Abstract

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) are still public health problems, affecting mainly the population with greater social vulnerability, becoming a challenge to be overcome worldwide. In the state of Ceará, the trend in recent years is the increase in cases of HIV/AIDS. The present study aimed to analyze the epidemiological profile of HIV/AIDS cases in the state of Ceará in the last 10 years. This is a cross-sectional observational descriptive epidemiological study. Data were obtained through the Transparency Platform of Public Health Management of the State of Ceará (IntregraSUS), analyzing the socio-epidemiological variables: gender, age group, exposure category, education and race/ethnicity, between the years 2013 and 2022. In the period analyzed, 14675 cases of HIV/AIDS were reported in the state of Ceará, with a predominance in males (76%), brown people (77.23%) and with complete high school education (23.18%). The sexual route continues to be the main means for HIV transmission, 87% of the cases reported in the period analyzed had the sexual route as a route of transmission. The epidemiological profile of HIV/ AIDS cases in Ceará was characterized by prevalence in certain groups, which reveals the need for public health policies to prevent the disease among the most vulnerable groups.
