Phototherapy represents the primary treatment modality for jaundice in neonates, effectively reducing unconjugated bilirubin levels. The Neonatal Jaundice guideline, established by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), serves to determine the necessity of phototherapy in newborns with jaundice. Healthcare professionals rely on this protocol, considering various factors such as bilirubin values, newborn conditions, and test results to ascertain the appropriateness of treatment. Since the existing process is still manual, the objective of this project was to develop a mobile application, named RN PhotoIndicator, that streamlines the prescription of phototherapy and provides insights into potential serious illnesses in newborns. This study follows a methodological approach of the applied type, employing the Incremental Model proposed by Press and Maxime as a framework. The mHealth application has been designed specifically for Android smartphones, featuring user-friendly interfaces, intuitive navigation, and efficient execution. It caters to the requirements of nurses and other healthcare professionals involved in the assessment of hyperbilirubinemia and jaundice in neonates. By providing scientifically grounded guidance, the application enhances the decision-making process, enabling early initiation of phototherapy, thereby benefiting both the mother and the newborn.
