Abstract

Hair is directly linked to self-esteem and plays a fundamental role in human life. Dandruff is a common dermatological condition characterized by flaking and irritation of the scalp. Clay helps remove impurities and excess oil, while essential oils can combat pathogens, such as the fungus Malassezia sp., often associated with this condition. The experimental study was carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of clay blends (combination of clay with essential oils) and essential oils for the treatment of dandruff. 16 participants were selected, with a primary complaint of dandruff. They were selected and divided into treatment and control groups, with subgroups for men and women. During the two-month period, eight blend application sessions were held, in addition to indications for homecare treatment. To treat dandruff, Tea Tree, lavender and Patchouli essential oils were used associated with white clay and control participants received an action plan consisting only of washing with neutral shampoo and applying the mask. At the end of the research, satisfaction assessments were carried out, with the results being able to be observed through photographic records and the use of a dermatoscope. After the sessions, participants reported a reduction in itching and flaking, of the treatment participants, 70% (n=7) rated it as very satisfied and 30%(n=3) as satisfied, of the control participants, 100% rated it as dissatisfied.  It is concluded that the treatment of dandruff through the combination of clay therapy and essential oils obtained positive results.
