STUDENT PERCEPTION ABOUT TEACHING PATIENT SAFETY IN NURSING TRAINING AT AN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION IN THE AMAZON REGION

Objective: the study aimed to investigate the perceptions of nursing students regarding the patient safety curricular component studied in the nursing degree. Method: This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, developed in 2023, in a Higher Education Institution located in the Amazon region. The sample consisted of 27 students. Data were collected individually using a semi-structured interview guide. Results and Discussion: From the Content Analysis of the interviews, three categories and eight subcategories emerged. It was possible to identify, through the students' reports, that the inclusion of the subject in the curriculum contributes to the improvement of knowledge about Patient Safety, based on the methodological teaching procedures used. The students explained that there was a change in vision and perception, optimization of the theory and practice relationship, dynamism in the teaching process, expansion of research incentives, in addition to having contributed to the identification of adverse events and care gaps during the practices carried out in the services of health. Conclusion: It is necessary to intentionally include the topic of Patient Safety in nursing curricula, in order to assist in the development of skills and abilities necessary to provide safe and effective care.
