This article seeks to point out premises and principles in the theories of Carl Rogers and David Ausubel that can guide the construction of educational arrangements based on meaningful learning. To this end, a literature review was chosen, relying on bibliographic research, revisiting scientific productions that directly or indirectly address humanistic theory and cognitive theory. In this logic, it is concluded that it is possible to simultaneously apply the premises and principles of both theories in the Brazilian educational system. The focus on the student in their entirety and the reorganization of pre-existing knowledge can be associated in the same process, in favor of meaningful learning that supports integral, liberating, and emancipatory formation, as a basic premise of Professional and Technological Education.
