The microbial quality of the air is essential for the well-being of the occupants of environments, especially closed environments. The aim of this study was to assess the occurrence of microorganisms in the indoor air of a higher education institution (HEI) in Belém-PA. An experimental and descriptive study was carried out at various locations in the HEI, with active and passive collections followed by microscopic, macroscopic and physiological characterizations. The most prevalent microorganisms were Staphylococcus spp. and Micrococcus spp., with the university restaurant being the predominant location. Despite this, it was concluded that 90.9% of the samples from the sites studied complied with the parameters required by ANVISA.
