Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Teaching of pharmacology in dentistry has been a challenge and the evaluation of its development is essential. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the students' opinion about the discipline of pharmacology and its performance in the course of Dentistry of FOP/ UPE in the semesters 2023.1 and 2023.2. METHODS: Qualitative-quantitative descriptive study with online questionnaire application via Google Forms after the last biannual evaluation. The data analysis used descriptive and inferential statistics, with exact tests of Fisher and Mann-Whitney, and a margin of error of 5%. RESULTS: The results showed that 88.9% of the students answered the questionnaire, mostly women, with low failure and reprobations. The discipline was well evaluated by 96.8% of students, highlighting the integration of content with clinical areas of dentistry. The topics of antimicrobials, anti-inflammatory, local anesthetics, hemostatics and coagulants drugs were considered more challenging. Most students considered the virtual room accessible and easy to understand (98.4%) and that the evaluations reflected the contents presented (93.8%). The discussion of the tests and the materials made available in advance were useful, but the search for teachers and monitors to take questions was seen as insufficient. CONCLUSION: The students evaluated favorably the discipline, highlighting the accessibility of the virtual room and the relevance of the evaluations, although interaction with teachers and monitors requires follow-up. The integration between theory and practice, with active and interactive methodologies, promotes student development. Emphasizing the need for continuous evaluation of the discipline of Pharmacology to optimize the educational experience.
