In view of the situation of public calamity caused by the Covid 19 pandemic, exceptionally, during the period of suspension of classes, the distribution of foodstuffs purchased using the National School Feeding Program to those responsible for students of public schools in basic education. The objective of the study was to identify and analyze the strategies adopted by municipalities in the states of Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and Espírito Santo (ES) to guarantee the provision of school meals during the period of social isolation. This is a descriptive quantitative cross-sectional study that used data from a national survey developed by the National Education Development Fund (FNDE) in partnership with the Collaborating Centers for School Food and Nutrition throughout Brazil, with a focus on data from the states of Rio de Janeiro(RJ) and Espírito Santo(ES). During social isolation most municipalities, both ES (76.9%) and RJ (73.9%) distributed kits at least once until the survey period. In ES 11.4% and in RJ 70% of the municipalities reported distributing universally. The inclusion of Family Farming (AF) genres was carried out by less than half of the municipalities, with better performance by ES. RJ mobilized little CAE participation in the Kits distribution process. The study pointed to a differentiated performance of the municipalities in the states of RJ and ES, in compliance with the guidelines of universality, sustainability and social participation.
