Popularly known as monkey pepper, Piper tuberculatum is one of the many plant species found in Brazilian territory. This species shows great therapeutic potential due to its various biological activities, including psychotropic, antimicrobial, antioxidant, cytotoxic, insecticidal, fungicidal, and antiparasitic properties. These activities are attributed to its chemical components, especially amides, with piplartine (PPT) being particularly notable. However, there are no studies on the characterization and standardization of this plant and its derivatives. To address this gap, the physicochemical characterization of Piper tuberculatum, its extracts, and PPT was carried out. The plant was collected in Recife-PE, and liquid and dry extracts were obtained by maceration and drying, respectively. The analyses confirmed that the materials meet pharmacopeial standards in aspects such as foreign matter, granulometry, moisture, and ash content. The isolated PPT showed a yield of 45.7%, purity of 95%, and through NMR, FTIR, TG, and DSC results, its identity was confirmed. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of the isolation method used and suggest its potential for industrial application.
