NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF CHILDREN WITH CONGENITAL HEART DISEASES

The congenital heart diseases are important cardiac anomalies, which affect the pediatric public, resulting in various adversities to the clinical state of children, even cyanosis, depending on the heart disease, whether it is acyanotic or cyanotic, which, in turn, raises the degree of criticality in the condition. of these children. Therefore, the objective of this study was to associate the type of congenital heart disease with the nutritional status of children in the preoperative period. This study was a quantitative - analytical, cross-sectional and prospectivec, from August to September 2022, whose variables were age, type of congenital heart disease and nutritional status, carried out with children aged 0 to 5 years old, admitted to the pediatric clinic of a public hospital of reference in cardiovascular diseases in Belém do Pará. The sample consisted of 31 children with congenital heart disease, mean age was 17.77 ± 13.36 months, predominantly female 54.84% (n=17), regarding the association of nutritional status with type of heart disease, found that the eutrophic nutritional status (32.25%) was predominant in acyanotic congenital heart diseases, while thinness (25.8%) was predominant in cyanotic ones. It was observed that there was an association by the analysis, where cyanotic children are more nutritionally affected in view of the reduced blood flow, mainly in the gastrointestinal tract. Finally, the findings of this study are important to determine and specialize nutritional support, although there is still a need for further studies in the cardiovascular area.
