HEALTH EDUCATION ACTIVITIES FOR THE PREVENTION OF OSTEOPOROSIS IN THE PUBLIC SPACE OF FORTALEZA-CE

Abstract

Osteoporosis is a highly prevalent and prevalent pathology that has a significant impact on the quality of life of those affected by it. In this context, this study was developed with the purpose of creating a community intervention. The main objective was to describe the impact of health education actions on the dissemination of scientific knowledge about osteoporosis in an accessible way, addressing topics on prevention, care, and treatment of osteoporosis. This was an experience report on an action-research extension project entitled “Health Education Activities for the Prevention of Osteoporosis in Public Spaces in Fortaleza-CE”, developed in 2023 by students of the Medical course at the State University of Ceará. The activities developed generated engagement among users of the primary care service at the Dom Aloísio Lorscheider unit through open dialogues. In this way, the aim was not only to prevent the development of osteoporosis, but also to reduce associated complications for those who already live with the condition, as well as for those who have close family members facing this challenge. This work contributed significantly to the quality of life of the target population, through the implementation of health education activities that dealt with the reduction of complications of osteoporosis. Regarding the students, this study contributed significantly to their education, as it provided a deeper knowledge of the topic addressed, a greater approximation with the public health network and its users.
